Reading AI Startup Figures: Revenue, Orders, Profit and Acquisition Proceeds

The revenue, orders, subscriptions and acquisitions in the entrepreneurial story, who exactly are they describing, which period and which result? This article combines multi-product studios and transaction announcements to organize the reading methods of revenue, receivables, costs and personal income. It also uses hypothetical calculations to explain why multiplication of numbers is still not enough to prove real operations, making it easier for readers to check the case basis.

Source timingRefer to public cases from 2023 to 2026; the example calculation does not represent the actual data of the company.

Answer four questions first with a number

Read entrepreneurial cases and first confirm who the numbers belong to, what period they correspond to, what indicators are used, and who provides them. The company, product and individual founder are not the same object; cumulative income and monthly income are not in the same period. In the absence of this information, it is difficult to compare even if the amounts are prominent.

How to distinguish common calibers

  • Revenue and profit: Revenue cannot replace the results after deducting various costs. Net profit will not be estimated without disclosing costs.
  • Orders and payment collection: Check the contract, amount delivered and payment received separately.
  • Subscriptions and one-time sales: Recurring income cannot be directly juxtaposed with one-time transaction amounts and is called ongoing monthly income.
  • Corporate transactions and personal income: The consideration in the acquisition announcement does not equal the personal income of a certain founder.

Multiple products need to be deduplicated by business group

1811 Labs’ annual review involves a shared team and multiple products; Wix’s Base44 announcement is an acquisition. They answer different questions. If the same person or the same studio operates multiple projects, personnel and common costs cannot be counted repeatedly with the number of products; company sales cannot be written as daily sales of products.

The calculation only checks arithmetic and does not prove real operations.

Assuming there are 100 orders of 7,000 yuan each, simply multiply them to 700,000 yuan. This is an example of a calculation constructed by ChinaOPC; it still does not prove that the order was fully fulfilled, paid for, or profitable. Similarly, multiplying the number of registered users by the subscription price can only yield a hypothetical number and cannot be regarded as recognized revenue.

If the advertisement uses business data, it is also necessary to check the source of citation, scope of application and time. The reading list here is the ChinaOPC editing method; specific advertising matters should refer to the original official legal text and actual business review, and cannot rely on the sentence "cases are for reference only" to fix exaggerated titles.
