After-Sales Retrieval Diagnostics: Locate the Failure before Replacing the Model

Poor knowledge retrieval may reflect missing documents, ranking, outdated versions or permissions. This unvalidated service offers failed-question sets, cause categories and small improvement records for businesses with existing systems. Larger models are not the default answer, and one change cannot be promised to fix every error.

This original proposal uses reranking documentation as a technical reference, without evidence of effectiveness in a client system.

Collect real unresolved questions

Support leads and system maintainers can jointly commission the work. Build authorized, anonymized samples with correct documents and versions. Distinguish missed retrieval, low ranking, obsolete content and permission mismatches.

Deliver diagnostics and reproducible comparisons

Retain original results, adjustments and retests, changing one main factor at a time. Add missing documentation before tuning retrieval; consider reranking when candidate order is the problem. Unrelated public rankings cannot replace the client's question set.

Limit quotations to systems and questions

Access, information volume and system complexity determine cost. Start read-only without changing production; agree implementation separately. Restrict material use to authorized purposes, disclose sample limitations and do not extend findings into system-wide accuracy guarantees.
