Uncertain AI Tasks: Bound Deliverables before Quoting a Fixed Price

The same amount of data, clarity and complexity may make the manual investment in AI services vary greatly. This article discusses how to prototype, define exceptions and set scope before fixing a quote, and differentiate between deliverables and exploratory attempts. The goal is to let customers know what they purchased, let the team know what work to undertake, and not to cover up the cost of rework and data quality with "AI is fast".

Error handling information provides context for exception classification. The following is ChinaOPC’s original operating analysis and does not provide a uniform price or guarantee that any project can be completed at a fixed cost.

Samples should cover difficult material

Simulate the sorting of scanned documents, first check for blurring, tables, and cross-page situations, and record the proportion and time that require manual processing. Only selecting clear sample estimates can easily underestimate the real work; the range of information provided by the customer should also be a fixed version.

Quotation clearly states the results and exceptions

Describe delivery fields, confirmation rounds, and how unrecognized content is handled. When new materials are added, uses are changed, or additional formats are required, both parties will re-evaluate, and all changes will not be automatically included in the original service, nor can prices be increased at will afterwards.

The exploration phase can be arranged separately

For tasks that are not yet sure whether they can be completed, a limited test and its output can be agreed upon first, and formal service can be decided upon completion. Test results honestly describe failures and limitations and are not deemed to be guaranteed for delivery. The final arrangement involving costs and responsibilities should be clearly agreed upon by both parties based on the actual situation.
