After AI Returns JSON: Completeness, Nullability and Business Correctness Differ

The model returns legal JSON, which does not mean it can be written directly into the business system. This article refers to the JSON Schema official document to discuss the separate checks of required, null values, types, and unknown fields, and gives a simulation example of customer demand sorting. After format verification, the actual business meaning still needs to be checked. Passing the structure cannot be regarded as factual accuracy or that the operation has been authorized.

JSON Schema provides object field and constraint descriptions. This article designs AI output checking steps based on this. The specific rules should be determined by business needs rather than completely left to model generation.

First define the difference between missing and unknown

Simulate order demand extraction. When the customer does not specify the delivery date, he should clearly indicate that it is pending confirmation instead of filling in today. Missing fields, empty values, and not applicable can adopt different states, but they must be defined in advance to prevent subsequent systems from treating empty values as default promises.

In addition to the structure, the relationship must be verified

A start date later than the end date, a negative quantity, or a missing currency may all appear in syntactically correct output. The application should perform deterministic business checks and return inconsistent results for confirmation. It should not just let the model evaluate whether it is correct.

The error result is retained but does not enter the formal action

Record input, validation errors and processing versions, and explain to the operator any additional information that needs to be added. The test covers unknown fields, overlong content and exception types. The result after passing the verification only represents the structure that conforms to the definition. Publishing, sending and business writing still require their own permission control.
