On May 9, 2023, Bhanu Teja Pachipulusu introduced SiteGPT on Indie Hackers and answered comments, describing AI chatbots built from users' websites. We study that early historical stage, not the product's 2026 position.
The product has a bounded source task: answering visitors from existing website content. Our analysis asks what it can read, which questions it covers, how information changes and when people intervene. These are research questions, not current capability tests.
The founder linked early reach to Twitter, Hacker News and Product Hunt while warning that timing and other conditions prevented simple replication. Channels are historical leads, with outcomes interpreted in their original context.
Replies discuss paying-user feedback and retention challenges. Our analysis separates launch attention from sustained use, examining first attempts, continuation and cancellation rather than only launch-day results.
These are public founder claims, without contracts, independently allocated costs or financial statements available for audit. Some costs cover multiple products. We infer neither SiteGPT-only profit nor Chinese acquisition expectations from overseas channels.
