FDE Operating Goals: Define Metrics around a Successful Customer Task

The availability of the service does not only mean that the interface returns successfully, the customer also needs to get correct and usable results. This article refers to SRE service target information to discuss how AI applications define a business success, select observation windows, and explain exceptions to help FDE form executable operational agreements with customers. The article does not apply uniform high availability numbers, nor does it treat the indicator definitions as achieved results.

Google SRE's information on SLOs provides context for service target design. The following is an analysis of ChinaOPC applications. Specific contract indicators should be determined based on actual measurements and the responsibilities of both parties.

Write success as an observable state

Successful simulation data compilation can require the generation of downloadable files within the agreed time, attachment of sources, and passing necessary format checks. A successful HTTP response is not enough; any manual evaluation required for service quality should also be clearly stated.

The observation range determines the meaning of the indicator

Make it clear which tasks are counted, how user cancellations and invalid input are handled, and the time window. Numbers obtained by different rules cannot be compared directly, and metrics cannot be made to look better by excluding difficult tasks.

Target connection exception handling

When indicators deviate from the target, there should be clear arrangements for who will respond first, whether to suspend the new version, and how to notify customers. Small teams can start with a few key metrics to avoid maintaining a large number of unread boards. This article provides design methodology and does not constitute a guarantee of any specific service level.
