First determine what the customer will ultimately use

Audio processing services may deliver verbatim transcripts, internal summaries, timelines, or publishable transcripts. The accuracy and editorial requirements of these outputs vary. Before you start, you should write down the purpose, audience, the scope of allowed changes, and what needs to be kept as it is. If you transcribe a lot without determining the purpose, it is easy to redo the entire draft later.

Four links from data to deliverables

  • Data reception: Confirm that the client has the right to provide and process the recording, record version, language, duration and confidentiality requirements.
  • Preliminary transcription: Time positioning is retained, and unconfirmed names, proper names, and numbers are marked as pending, and no guessing is allowed.
  • Manual inspection: Check the key points, speakers and numbers by listening back, and save the summary and the original words separately.
  • Delivery and acceptance: Provide the original transcription, proofreading and editing respectively, explaining the scope of processing and remaining doubtful points.

How to check input and rework

Sample tests should separately record the time of upload processing, review and proofreading, editing and modification. Multiple people speaking overlappingly, noise, and jargon change the workload, and the processing speed of a clear short recording cannot be extrapolated to all material. Quotation research should also be carried out after these recordings, without "audio per hour" equating to fixed labor time.

Output must be traceable

Keep clear versions and matters to be confirmed in the delivery documents, and release them only after the customer confirms important revisions. If sensitive or undisclosed information is involved, you should first confirm the usable processing environment and retention arrangements; this article does not provide qualifications for data processing in specific industries.
