SeamlessM4T v2: Checking Supported Input and Output Languages for Speech Translation

The input, text output and speech output of multi-language models may not have the same coverage. This article introduces the research uses of SeamlessM4T v2, explains the differences between speech-to-text, text-to-text translation, and speech-to-speech translation. It provides methods to organize tests according to language direction. It also reminds the boundaries of non-commercial licenses to avoid interpreting "supporting multiple languages" as meaning that any language can be freely converted to each other.

Meta's official model card lists various speech and text tasks of SeamlessM4T v2, and lists the input, text and speech output language ranges respectively. This weight adopts a non-commercial license. This article introduces the research evaluation method and does not serve as a recommendation for commercial access.

The test form is filled in by direction rather than by individual language

The simulation study should be written as a complete path such as "language A speech to language B text" and check whether it is supported respectively. Being able to recognize a language does not necessarily mean that you can synthesize the speech of that language; only with a clear direction can it be easy to find the ability gap.

Which section should the error be located in?

You can compare and identify text, translation and final speech to distinguish mishearing, mistranslation and mispronunciation. When numbers, names or technical words are involved, check them with speakers of the corresponding language. The overall sound naturally does not prove that the translation is accurate.

Research conclusion retention material conditions

Document audio quality, language direction, version, and human review evidence to avoid generalizing from a limited sample to a general effect. Formal services require separate verification of authorization, domain risks, and delivery responsibilities. Model demonstrations cannot be used to replace availability and licensing reviews.
